Be a part of our Sun Run this June and help us to bring the joy of Christmas to seriously-ill children this summer. The Trust is encouraging people to register before Sunday 7th June to be in with the chance of winning a tablet.
The Queen’s Award winning charity, Sebastian’s Action Trust is holding its 5km Sun Run on Sunday 14th June at Down Grange Sports Complex in Basingstoke. The annual event marks the beginning of the Trust’s Christmas in July campaign, where participants can run, walk or jog the 5km route.
The Murray family from Chineham, Basingstoke have been supported by the Trust for 4 years and are taking part in the fun run as a way of giving something back to the charity. Mother and supporter Susan Murray said, “Sebastian’s Action Trust has been a lifeline for Molly and our family. Molly has an undiagnosed severe neurological disorder, which causes her to have in excess of 200 seizures per day. The severity of this means that Molly requires constant care and observation which can leave a strain on the family unit as caring for Molly is extremely difficult.
Having been introduced to the Trust I have attended many Mums’ Pamper days and my husband has become involved by taking part in Dads’ days too. Molly’s sister Tabitha has also attended many sibling events, all of these activities have given our family support in so many different ways as we have all been able to be around people experiencing similar issues and not being afraid to talk about it. Molly loves visiting the Trust’s respite holiday home, The Bluebells and by taking part in the Sun Run we know that all money raised will go towards supporting families like ours”.
The Trust is also excited to announce that guest appearances by Elsa and Anna from the Disney hit film Frozen, will be greeting runners and spectators on the day.
Community Fundraiser Gemma Simpkins said, “We are delighted to have the support from our corporate supporters Unum, as this means that we can once again host our Sun Run at Down Grange. Although this day will be a great event, it also has a much deeper meaning. Sadly for many of our families a lot of children we support may not be able to celebrate Christmas in December. That’s why we are encouraging as many people as possible to help us raise vital funds which will help the incredible children we support”.
Entry costs £10 for adults, £5 for children and spectators are free. For those the register for the run before Friday 5th June will be entered into a prize draw to win a tablet. The Trust is proud to have the support from Basingstoke Rugby Club, who have kindly let us use their facilities as well as putting on a BBQ, providing a bouncy castle and a Rugby coconut shy, which we are sure will not disappoint. Supporters will be able to buy refreshments and gifts from a variety of stalls and stands on the day.
