Great Gatsby themed ball

Over 120 guests enjoyed a Great Gatsby themed ball organised by loyal supporters of Sebastian's Action Trust

On Thursday 18th September, Hedsor House’s glamorous, Georgian estate played host to a Great Gatsby themed ball to celebrate 10 years of Pride of Britain Award winning charity, Sebastian’s Action Trust.

The glitzy black tie event saw over 120 guests enjoy an evening of fantastic food and high class dancing and entertainment. The Trust’s Patron, David Wilkie MBE thanked guests saying, “I am so proud to have been associated with the Trust since its inception in 2003. It was an extraordinary wish of a very ill little boy that The Bluebells, a ‘home away from home’ for very sick children now exists and continues to help so many families. This is a truly amazing charity and to me reflects what a charity is all about, people helping people who are ill or less fortunate than themselves”.

Guests were treated to entertainment from musicians Bebe and Luna and jazz music from the Sally Knight Band, whilst also having the chance to enter the exquisite pearl raffle, sponsored by Kent and Kerr Accessories; seeing the lucky winner receive a stunning 100 inches of hand knotted fresh water pearls.

The event was hosted by long-term supporters of the Trust Heather Kent and Helen Wilkie and Trust ambassador Meirion Shaw. Meirion said, “Having been involved with Sebastian’s Action Trust from its early days, I felt it would be a great honour to host a ball for them in its tenth year. It was a fantastic evening that everyone enjoyed tremendously and raised an incredible amount of money which will do so much for the Trust. We would also like to thank all our sponsors who helped to make this event a success”.

Sebastian’s Action Trust CEO and mother to Sebastian Jane Gates, was also in attendance at the event and said, “We are thrilled that the ball has raised more than an incredible £15,000. I would like to thank our organisers Heather Kent, Helen Wilkie and Meirion Shaw for organising the event in celebration of our 10th anniversary; without all their hard work and motivation none of it would have been possible.

The money raised will make a huge difference to the work we do and will help continue to provide much needed support to seriously-ill children and their families”.

The charity has recently launched their 10 year anniversary book which gives readers and in-depth insight into those families that the Trust has supported and continue to support and personal accounts from its volunteers and trustees. To purchase, please call the fundraising team on 01344 622500.

Other quotes from the night included:

Trust Patron, Joanna Chin said, “Meirion, Heather and Helen did an amazing job of organising the Great Gatsby House Party. Hedsor House was the perfect venue and the event offered a fantastic opportunity to introduce Sebastian's Action Trust to new friends and supporters. One of our guests successfully bid for three Manchester United tickets, making her husband and two teenage sons very happy whilst helping the Trust at the same time. That's what I call a win-win situation! I'd love to see more events like this in the future".

Councillor, Samantha Rayner said, “It was an amazing evening. A glamorous, magical night in a stunning location. Everyone had such a great time all in remembrance of 10 years of Sebastian's Action Trust”.
