We care for families based in Hampshire and Berkshire, and we also offer restorative breaks at our centre, The Bluebells, to families from across the wider South-East.
We support families navigating life-limiting or life-threatening childhood illness. These conditions may shorten life and often mean a child or young person needs additional care and support. The information below explains who we support and the additional care needs we consider.
Who we support
We support children and young people aged 0–18 who have:
- Conditions that may improve but can return or worsen. Examples include cancer, severe heart conditions or organ failure
- Conditions where life expectancy is reduced. For example, cystic fibrosis
- Conditions that progressively worsen and cannot be cured. Examples include muscular dystrophy and Batten disease
- Conditions that cause severe disability and increased vulnerability to illness. For example, cerebral palsy with complex health needs
And we take into consideration additional care needs such as where your child:
- Requires oxygen or breathing support at home
- Has a breathing tube or uses a ventilator
- Experiences pain or distress when feeding
- Is fed via a PEG or NG tube
- Has seizures that are difficult to control with medication
- Requires emergency seizure medication daily
- Has seizures that regularly require hospital treatment
- Uses a wheelchair and needs help to mobilise
- Cannot sit independently
- Uses a pump to manage severe muscle stiffness or spasms
- Is registered blind
- Has a brain shunt requiring frequent monitoring
