Building connections that matter

Our community brings families together, offering connection, support and shared moments that lighten the load and remind everyone they’re not alone

Community

At Sebastian’s Action Trust, community is at the heart of everything we do. For families facing the challenges of childhood illness, the world can sometimes feel very small – hospital rooms, home routines, equipment, appointments and constant vigilance. It’s easy to feel cut off from the friendships, understanding and everyday connection that everyone deserves.

That’s why we place so much importance on creating a community where families can truly belong.

A place where families understand each other

Our families often say that one of the biggest comforts we offer is the chance to meet others who “get it”. Who understand the medical routines, the unpredictability, the fear, the exhaustion and the love that shapes each day.

We bring families together through:

  • Gatherings and social events
  • Seasonal celebrations
  • Activity days for the whole family
  • Sibling sessions and parent meet-ups
  • Opportunities to relax, chat and make memories

These moments help break down isolation and build connections that last long after the event is over.

Peer support that happens naturally

Our events are designed to be warm, welcoming and accessible, but the real magic happens in the conversations between families. It might be a chat over coffee, a shared smile in the garden, parents gently encouraging one another, or children playing alongside someone who understands their world. This kind of peer support is powerful – it reduces loneliness, strengthens resilience, and reminds parents that they are not walking this path alone.

A community rooted in care and belonging

Our community is made up of families navigating life-limiting and life-threatening childhood conditions, parents seeking connection and understanding, siblings who need space to laugh, play and feel seen, dedicated staff and volunteers, and supporters, fundraisers and friends of the charity. Together, they create a gentle but strong network of care. A place where every family is welcomed exactly as they are.

Events that bring us together

Throughout the year, we offer a wide range of activities designed to bring joy, comfort and togetherness, including family fun days, accessible seasonal events, creative workshops, therapeutic sessions, quiet reflection spaces, and opportunities to build friendships in a relaxed, understanding environment. Whether you come for a festive celebration or a peaceful morning at The Bluebells, the aim is always the same – to give families a chance to breathe, connect and feel held.

Why community matters

When a child or young person has a life-limiting condition, everyday life can shrink. Our community helps it open up again. Families tell us that being part of a supportive network reduces isolation, builds confidence, offers emotional comfort, encourages friendships and creates shared memories. Most importantly, it helps them feel stronger and less alone. Community doesn’t erase the challenges they face, but it can make the load lighter.
